Rotier’s (Nashville, TN)

I love hole in the wall local eateries. Rotier’s appeared to be just that from the street as I passed by. I added it to my list and made a point of going back to dine. The sign on the front says “Steaks & Seafood” but after reading about the place on the internet, I found that Hamburgers are the real specialty. Actually the place has won quite a few “Best Burger in Nashville” awards.

Location: Rotiers is located in a the historic Elliston place area. There are some great places to go out to listen to music after you eat. You can have a nice evening out and only park once.

Atmosphere: HOLE IN THE WALL!! :) Very small, very old, very worn out and comfortable. Many locals and I am sure plenty of them are regulars. This is NOT a tourist spot but rather a charming local place. Having lived in Nashville for over 8 years, I am local enough to feel comfortable here.

Food: Indeed one of the best hamburgers I have ever had. I ordered a simple cheeseburger with bacon and opted for the “french bread”. It was huge, juicy and cooked to perfection. The Cheese sticks as an appetizer were big and tasted like they were made in fresh clean fryer oil. That is a big deal for me.

Service: our waitress was charming and very attentive. The food was delivered quickly even though the place was full of patrons. Another great aaspect of the sevrice was that my beer was never empty. She was on top of things and that is appreciated.

Overall: I would definitely go out of my way for another of these burgers. It would be a great place to meet some friends before a show at the Exit Inn down the street!

Muddea’s Chicken & Waffles (Nashville, TN)

2805 Clarksville Pike
Nashville, TN 37208

I had read about Chicken & Waffles during my search for a good place to eat waffles here in Nashville. Waffles have been a life long favorite of mine and as usual I can be very picky about them and how they are made. I read about a place here called Muddea’s Chicken & Waffles. They are known for making a traditional, southern combination that caters to the traditions of the local African American community and history. I had to try it!

Location: The location as listed above is not very convenient for much of Nashville. It is a bit out of town on the north side.

Atmosphere: This is quite lacking as it appears to be an old 1970′s Wendy’s or Roy Rogers building. The decor has not changed 1 bit since. Not very charming BUT they were playing old 70′s motown, funk and R&B on the over head speakers and THAT made all the difference in the world. I felt as if I were indeed in a 1970′s fast food joint!

Food: The waffles were quite literally the best waffles I can remember having. They were thick Belgian style waffles with a hint of Vanilla. A slight sprinkling of powdered sugar, some butter and off the shelf Aunt Jemima syrup combined to perfection. I loved it! The chicken was FRESH. It was very crispy but not dry. The meat was juicy and very tasty. For my taste it was a bit salty but I won’t say it was bad because I have to watch my sodium intake so what one may consider normal is way too much for me. I saw another patron with an omelet and next time I will have to try it. It was HUGE and bursting with fillings!

Service: This is tough to rate. The waitress was as kind as you could ever hope for. However the food took 40 minutes to come out. There were only about 10 people in the place and 8 were there already when we arrived. This was not a good way to obtain returning business form new customers. We made it known that this was our first time and that we drove out based on reputation. In their defense, the cook did come out and say he was sorry but offered no explanation.

Overall: All in all it was a good experience. If we are in the area, I would definitely go in for a waffle and omelet but I wouldn’t go out of my way.
